The precision and creaminess of a Second Wine from Saint-Émilion
The property
First Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion, the Château Valandraud shines among the most beautiful properties of the appellation. Demonstrating a remarkable quality-price ratio, the Virginie de Valandraud cuvée is made from a selection of the estate's younger vines.
The vineyard
The Virginie de Valandraud is a wine from Saint-Émilion made from vines planted on clay-limestone and siliceous-gravelly soils. The vines are on average 20 years old. The harvested area for the production of this wine is 15 hectares.

The vintage
A relatively mild winter precedes a warm spring with low but regular rainfall. While these conditions favour rapid vegetative development, they also lead to a rare intensity of mildew pressure until mid-July, controlled by the efforts and rigour of the teams. The high temperatures in September ensure optimal maturity of the grapes before the harvest, carried out under favourable conditions from 13 September to 4 October.
Vinification and ageing
Hand harvesting. Ageing for 18 months in 100% new barrels.
