A great Florentine family devoted to the production of Tuscan wines, the Frescobaldi family has been established in this land of history for over 1,000 years. Their influence grew considerably during the period of the Republic of Florence, when the city's banking industry developed. The family was notably involved in the great works of art of the time, such as the Santa Trinita Bridge and the Santo Spirito Basilica.

Located in the Montalcino area, to the south-west of the medieval town, Tenuta Luce Della Vite, one of the Frescobaldi family's estates, covers 192 hectares, 55 of which are planted with vines, with an average density of 6,100 vines per hectare.

At between 350 and 420 metres above sea level, Tenuta Luce Della Vite has one of the highest vineyards in the area. The soil is rich in pebbles and sediments but low in organic matter, and the south-facing slope provides ideal conditions for producing great Sangiovese grapes that ripen slowly. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted in the lower part of the vineyard, on clay soils.
