Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages 2024
Tasting
Color
This white wine displays a bright, pale straw-gold color, enlivened by subtle green highlights that hint at its youth and vibrant acidity.
Nose
The nose opens on delicate white flowers, fresh citrus and ripe green apple, layered with a light note of white-fleshed fruit and a discreet chalky minerality that recalls the limestone soils of its origin.
Palate
The palate is lively and well balanced, carried by crisp acidity that frames notes of lemon zest and green apple, rounded out by a touch of riper pear. The finish is clean, refreshing and nicely persistent, closing on citrus and a faint stony minerality.
Food and wine pairings
This chardonnay pairs beautifully with shellfish and seafood, grilled or pan-seared fish, and roasted poultry. It also complements fresh salads, creamy goat cheese and other soft-ripened cheeses, making it a versatile companion for both casual meals and more refined dinners.
Serving and cellaring
The Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages 2024 is best served at a cool temperature, around 50–54°F (10–12°C), to highlight its freshness and aromatic precision. According to Maison Louis Jadot, this cuvée generally shows an aging potential of 2 to 5 years depending on the vintage, making it a wine best enjoyed in its youth while its fruit and liveliness are at their peak.
Other characteristics
This dry white wine shows a pH of 3.26, a total acidity close to 3.28 g/l and an alcohol content of about 12.62%, confirming a taut, refreshing profile with no residual sweetness.
A Mâcon-Villages Chardonnay Shaped by Chalky Soils and a Stainless-Steel Approach
The Estate
Maison Louis Jadot was founded in Beaune, Burgundy, in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, though the family's viticultural roots date back to 1826 with the acquisition of the Clos des Ursules. Since 1985, the house has belonged to the Kopf family, tied to the Kobrand group, its longtime American importer. Today, Thomas Seiter serves as president, Thibault Gagey as managing director, and Frédéric Barnier as winemaker. Known for combining négociant activity with extensive estate vineyards across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais and Beaujolais, Louis Jadot has built its reputation on a precise, terroir-driven style and a longstanding commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture.
The Vineyard
The Mâcon-Villages appellation lies in the southernmost part of Burgundy, bordering Beaujolais, and spans roughly 2,500 hectares across 43 communes, all authorized to produce this white-only appellation. For this cuvée, Louis Jadot selects grapes from vineyards across the Mâconnais planted on predominantly limestone and chalky soils, drawing on what the house describes as some of the finest fruit the region's harvest has to offer.
The Vintage
The 2024 growing season began mildly, with warm weather in February and early March, before a cool, rainy April and May slowed vine growth and pushed flowering back to early June. Temperatures returned to seasonal norms in July, accompanied by abundant rainfall, followed by a drier, warmer August and a cooler September, a sequence that allowed for a gradual, balanced ripening of the chardonnay grapes.
Winemaking and aging
The Louis Jadot Mâcon-Villages 2024 is fermented and aged entirely in stainless steel tanks, with no contact with wood, a choice made to preserve the purity of the fruit and the wine's natural freshness.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from 100% chardonnay.
