Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2022: A White Burgundy from Maison Louis Jadot
The Estate
Maison Louis Jadot was founded in 1859 in Beaune, Burgundy, by Louis Henry Denis Jadot, following the family's 1826 acquisition of the Clos des Ursules vineyard. Today the house farms roughly 230 hectares across the Côte d'Or, the Mâconnais, and Beaujolais, combining négociant activity with estate-owned vineyards. Since 1985, Louis Jadot has been owned by the Kopf family, linked to Kobrand Fine Wine & Spirits, with Thomas Seiter serving as president and Thibault Gagey as managing director. The house favors low yields, hand harvesting, and sustainable practices, and obtained organic certification for its estate vineyards in 2024.
The Vineyard
The Chassagne-Montrachet appellation lies in the southern part of the Côte de Beaune, just south of Puligny-Montrachet, where chardonnay is grown on a patchwork of limestone and marl soils that can shift character within just a few meters. This village-level cuvée is assembled from plots located across the communal appellation, as opposed to the single-climat premier cru wines such as Morgeot, Caillerets, or Baudines also produced by the house on this same appellation.
Winemaking and aging
The Chassagne-Montrachet Village 2022 is vinified according to Louis Jadot's traditional non-interventionist approach, relying on indigenous yeasts and separate, plot-by-plot vinification to preserve the character of each terroir. Aging takes place in French oak barrels crafted by Cadus, the house's own cooperage founded in 1996 in partnership with Tonnellerie Vicard, allowing for precise control of oak influence tailored to the wine's needs.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from 100 % chardonnay, the grape variety traditionally associated with the white wines of Chassagne-Montrachet and the broader Côte de Beaune.
