A Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru with Complex Aromas and a Silky Texture

The Estate

Founded in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin in Beaune, the Maison Joseph Drouhin has upheld Burgundian winemaking traditions for four generations. Today run by the Drouhin family, this family-owned estate has cultivated vineyards in Burgundy and Oregon since 1987. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture since the 1980s, it stands out for its sustainable approach and transatlantic expertise.

The Vineyard

The Morgeot climat is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, south of the prestigious Côte de Beaune, in the Côte des Blancs alongside Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. This gently sloping vineyard benefits from an exceptional limestone marl terroir. The site’s history dates back to the Gallic era, with "Morgeot" meaning "limit" or "boundary", marking the division between the Côte d'Or and Saône-et-Loire. The historic presence of the Morgeot abbey attests to the long-standing viticultural heritage of this exceptional terroir.

Winemaking and Aging

The Maison Joseph Drouhin sources grapes and musts from partner growers under a strict set of specifications. Hand harvesting into ventilated crates allows meticulous sorting of the grapes. Slow pressing of whole clusters in a pneumatic press precedes fermentation. After settling, the whites are transferred to barrels for alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, with 20 to 25 % in new oak barrels. The aging of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Morgeot" Marquis de Laguiche 2022 spans 16 to 18 months in French high-forest oak, guided by weekly tastings to preserve the finesse and expression of the terroir.
