Domaine Faiveley : Mercurey Village "Clos Rochette" Monopole 2015

The winemaking legacy of the Faiveley family in the heart of Burgundy began in 1825, with the establishment of Maison Joseph Faiveley by Pierre Faiveley. He was succeeded by his nephew Joseph, a true visionary who laid the foundations for the family estate, which was then passed down from one generation to the next. Today, the 7th generation of the Faiveley family - represented by Erwan and Eve Faively - run the estate, which has come to include vineyard properties in the most famous appellations of the Cote du Nuits, Cote de Beaune and Cote Chalonnaise. The domaine's Chief Winemaker, Jerome Flous, blends traditional with modernity in the 19th century cellars, producing wines that faithfully express the character of each noble Burgundy terroir. The Mercurey Blanc Clos Rochette 2015 from Domaine Faiveley is a 100% Chardonnay wine made with grapes harvested from an 11-acre monopole called Clos Rochette, located in the heart of the Mercurey appellation. The vines were first planted in 1960 in a very rocky terroir of clay, limestone and gravel soils. Following a manual harvest and sorting, the fruit was pressed on site and then brought to the Nuits-St-George cellars for aging. Only a small portion of the wine was matured in oak barrels, with the majority spending 10-12 months in stainless steel to preserve the freshness of the fruit.

The Mercurey Blanc Clos Rochette 2015 from Domaine Faiveley displays a gorgeous bright yellow color in the glass. On the nose, this white Burgundy is very ripe and pungent, with notes of straw, cirus and pear coming through. On the palate, the wine is very harmonious and open, revealing flavors of white peach and butterscotch candies, along with a saline touch on the lingering finish. A rich, generous and mouthwatering wine to be enjoyed young.
