Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Auxey-Duresses Village Leflaive & Associés 2022 Domaine Leflaive
A Village Wine from Auxey-Duresses Shaped by the Leflaive Approach
The Estate
Domaine Leflaive was established in Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy, when Joseph Leflaive began building the estate in 1910, later expanding across several grand and premier crus of the Côte de Beaune. Still entirely family-owned, the property is today led by Brice de La Morandière, Joseph's great-grandson, who continues the pioneering commitment to biodynamic viticulture adopted in 1996 by Anne-Claude Leflaive. Known for its precise, terroir-driven white wines, Domaine Leflaive also extends its expertise through its Leflaive & Associés négociant activity, exploring Burgundian appellations beyond its own vineyards.
The Vineyard
The Auxey-Duresses appellation lies in the Côte de Beaune, slightly set back from more renowned neighboring villages. Its vineyards rest on clay-limestone soils with a significant proportion of calcareous marl, a combination that favors lively, precise white wines capable of gaining fullness with time. This village cuvée is produced under the Leflaive & Associés négociant label, through which Domaine Leflaive partners with selected growers in Auxey-Duresses while overseeing the harvest and winemaking according to its own standards of rigor.
Winemaking and aging
For Auxey-Duresses Village Leflaive & Associés 2022, as for all wines bearing the Leflaive & Associés name, Domaine Leflaive oversees the harvest and winemaking with the same rigor applied to its own vineyards. The grapes are picked by hand and fermented with indigenous yeasts through a slow, extended process. The wine is then aged for close to two years, first in oak barrels and subsequently in tank, allowing a gradual and gentle maturation in keeping with the estate's minimal-intervention philosophy.
Grape Varieties
This wine is crafted entirely from chardonnay (100 %), the signature white grape of Burgundy.
