Description
An ample Burgundy white wine with beautiful structure
The estate
Based in Puligny-Montrachet in France, Domaine Leflaive is a true icon of Burgundy. While the family roots date back to 1717, the modern estate took its current legal form in 1973 with the creation of a civil operating company. A pioneer, the estate distinguished itself with a complete conversion to biodynamics as early as 1997 under the leadership of Anne-Claude Leflaive. Today, Brice de la Morandière runs this prestigious 24-hectare vineyard in the Côte de Beaune, extended into the Mâconnais. The estate is renowned worldwide for its great white wines, combining tradition, agronomic innovation and respect for biodiversity.
The vineyard
The grapes destined for the Pouilly-Fuissé cuvée come from 12 plots spread over 2.16 hectares in the Mâconnais. Located around the famous Roche de Solutré, these vines benefit from varied exposures ranging from south-east to south-west. They thrive on clay-limestone soils that are often shallow, encouraging a fine concentration in the berries. The entire vineyard is rigorously managed biodynamically, incorporating a comprehensive ecological vision with the planting of conservation orchards and hedgerows to stimulate local biodiversity.
Vinification and ageing
After entirely manual harvesting and meticulous sorting, the musts of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village 2023 are transported daily to Puligny-Montrachet. The process begins with a long, gentle pneumatic pressing, followed by a 24-hour settling period. Fermentation takes place 25% in concrete eggs and 75% in oak barrels (of which 15% are new). Ageing extends over 15 to 16 months in total: first 12 months in barrels, then approximately 6 months in vats for refinement. The wine finally undergoes a homeopathic fining and a very light filtration before bottling.
Grape variety
This Pouilly-Fuissé Village 2023 from Domaine Leflaive is 100% Chardonnay.
