Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2022 Domaine Duroché
Tasting
Color
The wine displays a deep ruby-red color, lit by fine violet and purple reflections that reveal both the richness of the vintage and the youth of the wine.
Nose
The nose opens on a dense fruit register of black cherry, blackberry and crunchy blueberry, mingling with brighter notes of raspberry and redcurrant. A floral dimension unfolds through rose petal and orange zest, accompanied by white pepper and gentle spice. With aeration, more savory nuances of truffle, undergrowth and a subtle mineral, saline background come forward, adding depth and complexity to the aromatic profile.
Palate
The palate is medium to full-bodied, built on a silky, finely grained tannic structure that stays tensile and well balanced rather than heavy. The attack reveals ripe, generous fruit, while the mid-palate keeps remarkable precision, carried by a lively acidity. The finish is long and persistent, marked by truffle, undergrowth and a saline, mineral edge that lingers well after tasting.
Food and wine pairings
This Chambertin Clos de Bèze pairs beautifully with quality poultry such as pigeon, duck or chicken served with a mushroom or truffle-based sauce. It also complements structured red meats like beef filet or veal, as well as game birds once the wine has gained a few years of age. With further bottle aging, it can be enjoyed alongside aged hard cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and cellaring
It is recommended to decant the Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2022 about one hour before serving to allow the bouquet to fully open and the tannins to soften. According to critics, the wine should be given time in the cellar, with an optimal drinking window situated between 2032 and 2040, and the potential to age gracefully well beyond that point.
Other characteristics
The Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2022 is a dry red wine, with an alcohol content situated between 13% and 14%, reflecting the ripeness and concentration of the 2022 vintage.
A Chambertin-Clos de Bèze from Domaine Duroché, shaped by old vines and mineral tension
The Estate
Domaine Duroché is a family estate built from 1954 onward by Philippe Duroché in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Today led by Pierre Duroché and his wife Marianne, the fifth generation of the family, the estate farms about 8.5 hectares entirely within the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, including four grand crus. Known for minimal-intervention winemaking, old vines and a precise, elegant style, Domaine Duroché has become one of the most sought-after addresses in the village.
The Vineyard
The Chambertin-Clos de Bèze plot farmed by Domaine Duroché covers just 0.25 hectare, spread over eight rows running from the bottom to the top of the slope. Planted in 1920, these vines are the oldest on the estate, acquired by Philippe Duroché in 1955. The soils here are predominantly clay-limestone, well suited to pinot noir. The vines are tended without herbicides or synthetic products, relying only on copper and sulfur treatments, with low natural yields reinforced by the vines' age and massal selection.
The Vintage
The 2022 growing season in Gevrey-Chambertin began with a dry spring before a violent hailstorm struck the village on June 21, coming down from the Combe de Lavaux. The dry weather that followed helped limit the damage. A hot August then accelerated ripening, concentrating the berries while old vines and clay-limestone soils helped preserve freshness. Harvest at the estate began on August 26, yielding fruit with balanced ripeness and crunchy, elegant tannins.
Winemaking and aging
The Chambertin Clos de Bèze 2022 is vinified using indigenous yeasts, with moderate extraction and no sulfur added during fermentation. The wine is aged in barrel for around twelve months, with a very small proportion of new oak, without racking. No fining is applied, and filtration remains rare and light. Each barrel is blended in vat prior to bottling, which takes place in winter.
Grape Varieties
This wine is produced from 100% pinot noir.
