Description
Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions for Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2022 – Domaine Arlaud
Tasting
Nose
The nose opens on a vivid fruit-driven bouquet, with blueberry, raspberry and cherry leading the way, enhanced by delicate touches of sweet spice such as cinnamon and licorice.
Palate
On the palate, the wine reveals remarkable refinement, with an airy yet deep texture that combines roundness and depth. The tannins are ripe and beautifully integrated, carrying through to a finish that is both intense and remarkably long.
Food and wine pairings
Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2022 is well suited to fine dining. Its fruit-forward, spiced profile and silky structure pair naturally with roasted or braised red meats such as beef filet or veal, as well as with refined poultry dishes like pigeon or capon served with mushroom or truffle sauces. The wine's depth and ripe tannins also make it a fitting companion for game such as duck or venison with red fruit accents, and it can stand up beautifully to well-aged soft cheeses such as Époisses or Brie de Meaux.
Serving and cellaring
With its ripe, well-integrated tannins and long, intense finish, Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2022 is regarded as a wine for fine dining and long-term cellaring, built to evolve gracefully over the years.
A Grand Cru from Chambolle-Musigny Reflecting the Precision of Domaine Arlaud
The Estate
Domaine Arlaud is a family-owned estate founded in 1942 in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits. Today spanning 17 hectares across 19 appellations, including four grand crus, the estate has been certified organic since 2010 and biodynamic under the Biodyvin label since 2014, becoming the first domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis to earn this certification. Since 2013, the estate has been run by Cyprien Arlaud, who continues the family's commitment to gentle, terroir-driven winemaking, including horse plowing and hand-braided vines across all grand cru and premier cru plots.
The Vineyard
The Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru comes from a tiny 0.20-hectare plot located in Chambolle-Musigny, within this celebrated climat shared with Morey-Saint-Denis. The vines, planted in 1979, grow in clay-limestone soil composed of roughly 85% red clay and 15% white clay, contributing both power and finesse to the wine. Farmed organically and biodynamically, this parcel benefits from horse plowing and hand-braiding of the vines, practices the estate applies across all its grand cru and premier cru holdings to preserve soil life and support balanced ripening.
Winemaking and aging
Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru 2022 is vinified through spontaneous fermentation in wooden vats, relying solely on indigenous yeasts. About one third of the harvest is fermented as whole clusters, while the remainder is destemmed but left uncrushed. Extraction is slow and gentle, carried out through pump-overs and foot punch-downs, followed by a soft pneumatic pressing. The wine is then aged for 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, with no more than 20% new wood, before being bottled without fining or filtration, in keeping with the lunar calendar.
Grape Varieties
This cuvée is crafted from 100% pinot noir, the only grape variety permitted under the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru appellation.
