Description

Complex and refined, a fine Haut-Medoc red wine

The estate

Located at the entrance of the Pauillac appellation, Chateau Peyrabon is nestled in a green haven. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Chateau Peyrabon has undergone major work, both in the vineyard and the cellar, in order to reorganize and modernize the estate. Chateau Peyrabon is a very fine Haut-Medoc reference, producing elegant and powerful wines which offer a promising and superb ageing potential.

The vineyard

Near the village of Saint-Sauveur in the Medoc region, Chateau Peyrabon’s vineyard spreads across 49 hectares, 41 of which are used to produce the estate’s wines. The vines are 22 years old on average and are planted on sandy gravel soil with a clay subsoil. 5 hectares of the vineyard rest on clay-limestone soils.

Vinification and aging

Following the harvest, the grapes are rigorously sorted. Vinification is carried out in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel tanks, with adapted pumping-over and delestage to encourage a gentle extraction. Maceration for 19 to 24 days. The presses are separated and selected following a tasting. Malolactic fermentation is carried out partly in barrels. The wine is aged for 14 months in barrels (26% new oak) and then fined in vats.

The blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (44.7%)

Merlot (44.3%)

Cabernet Franc (6.8%)

Petit Verdot (4.2%)

Chateau Peyrabon 2011: Characteristics and tasting tips

The tasting

Nose

Seductive and elegant, the nose combines fragrances of sweet almonds, blackcurrant syrup, ink and blackberry jam.

Palate

A precise attack leads to a structured, full and delicate mouth. The palate is seduced by this wine's firm tannins and its long and aromatic finish.
