Description

The inimitable style of a great red wine from Haut-Medoc with outstanding aging potential

The estate

Located in the Haut-Medoc appellation, at the gates of PauillacChateau Peyrabon is nestled in a verdant setting. Owned by Patrick Bernard since 1998, Chateau Peyrabon has undergone major restructuring and modernization, both in the vineyard and in the winery. Classified a Cru Bourgeois Superieur, Chateau Peyrabon has become an important reference in Haut-Medoc. The estate produces wines representative of the appellation, wines that are elegant and powerful with a superb potential for aging.

The vineyard

In the commune of Saint-Sauveur Medoc, the Chateau Peyrabon vineyard covers approximately 37 hectares of vines, aged 28 years on average and planted in gravelly sandy soil upon a clay subsoil. 5 hectares of vineyard are planted in clay-limestone soils. The vineyard has earned the ISO14001-2015 and HVE (High Environmental Value) certifications, with phytosanitary protection carried out in a sustainable way.

The vintage

For this 2020 vintage, the harvests at Chateau Peyrabon were carried out manually and mechanically. The harvests began on 17 September for the Merlot and ended on 6 October with the Cabernet Franc and the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winemaking and aging

The grapes transferred by vibrating trailer are subject to destemming and optical sorting. Plot-by-plot vinification is carried out in concrete and thermoregulated stainless steel vats, accompanied by pour-overs, punch-downs and rack and return to encourage a smooth extraction. The pressed juices are separated then selected after tasting. The funnelling is partly carried out in drained barrels. Aging lasts for 14 months in barrels (25% in new oak), with fining in vats afterwards.

Blend

Cabernet Sauvignon (54%), Merlot (38%), Cabernet Franc (5%), Petit Verdot (3%).

Tasting

Chateau Peyrabon 2020 is a wine with a lovely freshness marked by red and black fruits. A perfect balance is complemented by a woody touch and a great finesse which carries into the finish.
