Vinum

Of austere, angular, robust, even somewhat rustic character; it should benefit from some ageing.

Decanter

Concentrated and a little unforgiving, although there are plenty of black cherry and blackberry fruit together with a shot of black pepper spice. Short on the finish, where the fingers of the tannins show some austerity. Tasted twice.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown

La Fleur Peyrabon 2020 is deep garnet-purple in color. It leaps with youthful scents of blackcurrants, black cherries, and fragrant earth, followed by wafts of wild sage and pencil shavings. The medium-bodied palate is lively and energetic, with crunchy black fruits and a vibrant finish.

Le Figaro Vin

A lovely nose of supple red fruits, with an innocent coquettish charm. Supple and sumptuous on the palate, simple and delectable. An authentic wine that will give a great deal of pleasure.

Surprisingly light wine this year. Medium body and length.

92–94. Barrel Sample. This comes from the smaller portion of Château Peyrabon that is in Pauillac. The vineyard has produced a textured, firm wine, showing great black currant fruits from the Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine is properly structured and will certainly age.

Description

The fruity delicacy of a great red wine from Pauillac with a perfect balance

The estate.

Situated in the heart of the Pauillac appellation, Chateau La Fleur Peyrabon is an estate that boasts a great personality. On the left bank of Bordeaux, this property has since 1998 been brilliantly managed by Patrick Bernard, who has made it a point of honor to produce elegant and refined wines that reflect the unique qualities of this great terroir.

The vineyard

Chateau La Fleur Peyrabon is home to vines aged 22 years on average, planted on a little over 7 hectares of land, featuring sandy gravels topsoil upon clay subsoils, a fantastic Médoc terroir.

The vintage

For this 2020 vintage, the harvests at Chateau La Fleur Peyrabon were carried out manually and mechanically. The harvests began on 18 September for the Merlot and ended on 3 October with the Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winemaking and aging

The grapes, transferred by vibrating trailer, are subject to a destemming and an optical sorting, followed by crushing and barrelling. Plot-by-plot vinification is carried out in concrete and thermoregulated stainless steel vats, accompanied by pour-overs, punch-downs and rack and return to encourage a smooth extraction. The pressed juices are systematically separated in barrels. The funnelling is partly carried out in drained barrels. Aging lasts for 14 months in barrels (60% in new oak), with fining in vats afterwards.

The blend

The Chateau La Fleur Peyrabon 2020 is made from a blend of 61% of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by 28,5% of Merlot and 10.5% of Petit Verdot.

Tasting

The Chateau La Fleur Peyrabon 2020 is a beautifully round wine which reveals a floral and indulgent character. Its perfect structure, beautiful balance and impressive length characterize this blend focused on red and black fruits.
