Description
Characteristics and tasting advice for Louis Roederer Collection 246
Tasting
Appearance
The color is luminous and brilliant, enhanced by fine, steady effervescence.
Nose
The bouquet reveals aromas of yellow fruits such as mirabelle plum and nectarine, accompanied by candied citrus reminiscent of lemon. Toasty, vanilla-tinged oak notes mingle with subtle reductive nuances evoking seashells, along with roasted and iodine-like notes.
Palate
The attack is fruity, with peach aromas and floral nuances of pollen. The light, delicate texture reveals soft, creamy bubbles. The mid-palate develops saline, chalky sensations with an oily, powdery texture. The long, graceful finish unveils smoky, roasted notes from the perpetual reserve, lending an impression of freshness, energy, and vibrancy.
Food and wine pairings
This Champagne pairs perfectly with a refined aperitif, platters of fine charcuterie, or grilled fish.
Serving and cellaring
Collection 246 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 46°F and 50°F (8–10°C).
A precise, vibrant Champagne by Louis Roederer
The estate
Founded in 1776 in Reims, the Champagne Louis Roederer Champagne House has remained family-owned and independent. More than 200 years on, Maison Louis Roederer is still in the hands of the same family. Now headed by Frédéric Rouzaud, the seventh generation of the lineage, Maison Louis Roederer embodies the excellence of Champagne wines around the world through cuvées crafted like works of art.
The vineyard
With nearly 241 hectares of vines, Maison Louis Roederer draws its strength from its extraordinary vineyard, composed exclusively of Grand and Premier Crus in the Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims, and the Côte des Blancs. A true mosaic of terroirs, the Louis Roederer vineyard is divided into 410 plots, reflecting the full diversity of soils in Champagne.
The cuvée
This Champagne comes from three emblematic terroirs: one-third from the “La Rivière” vineyard in the Vallée de la Marne, one-third from the “La Montagne” vineyard on the Montagne de Reims, and one-third from the “La Côte” vineyard on the Côte des Blancs. The grapes are sourced from the estate’s own vineyards, complemented by selected “Cœur de Terroir” parcels from grower partners. Viticulture favors sustainable practices.
The blend
Collection 246 represents the 246th blend by Maison Louis Roederer. This multi-vintage cuvée is based on 55% wines from the 2021 harvest, enriched by 35% perpetual reserve comprising vintages 2012 to 2020, and 10% reserve wines aged in oak from 2012 to 2017.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking for Collection 246 includes 24% wines aged in oak. Partial malolactic fermentation at 30% brings roundness and complexity to the blend. A final dosage of 7 g/L gives this Champagne its delicate balance between freshness and indulgence.
Grape varieties
The blend is composed of 54% Chardonnay, bringing finesse and elegance, 35% Pinot Noir for structure, and 11% Meunier for roundness.
