Description
A Singular Blanc de Blancs from a Unique Terroir
The Property
Founded in Reims in 1981, Bruno Paillard is one of the youngest houses of Champagne. With a rigorous selection of terroirs, exclusive use of first pressings, blends made from a vast collection of reserve wines, and an aging period twice as long as required by the appellation's specifications, the range of Bruno Paillard champagnes reflects this constant pursuit of excellence and the desire to create a "very personal style".
The Vineyard
The Bruno Paillard Champagne House oversees an exceptional vineyard, patiently assembled over 32 hectares of vines spread over 15 crus, including 12 classified as "Grands Crus". The vineyard brings together the great terroirs of Oger, Le Mesnil sur Oger, Cumières, Verzenay, as well as the exceptional Cru des Riceys located in the south of Champagne.
The Wine
While the Bruno Paillard house is known for the quality of its blended wines, this Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Grand Cru 2000 is made from grapes from a single Grand Cru in the prestigious Côte des Blancs, Le Mesnil sur Oger, from a single grape variety and a single "Pudepeigne" plot over 50 years old, and from a single year: 2000.
The Vintage
A mild and dry winter was followed by a spring marked by several episodes of hail affecting the whole of Champagne. While a favorable weather window in mid-June encouraged rapid flowering, July was marked by heavy rainfall and low temperatures. August was more clement despite some episodes of hail. The harvested grapes are of great quality, with beautiful maturity, guaranteeing a great vintage.
Vinification and Aging
Produced only in magnum, this vintage 2000 champagne from Bruno Paillard underwent 13 years of aging on lees at a temperature of 10.5°C. An additional 4 years of aging was carried out after disgorging in August 2014.
Blend
This Blanc de Blancs Le Mesnil Grand Cru 2000 from Bruno Paillard is a 100% chardonnay.
