Description
Cascina Fontana is a small, family-run wine estate situated in the prestigious hills of Barolo, in the Piedmont region of Italy. The property, run by the Fontana family for 6 generations is today lead by Mario Fontana, who carries on family traditions in crafting classic, terroir-driven Barolo wines. The 2016 vintage of the Cascina Fontana Barolo is produced from Nebbiolo grapes taken from various Barolo "crus" - 70% from the Villero and Mariondino crus of Castiglione Falletto and 30% from the Giachini cru in La Morra.
This classic Barolo is remarkably fresh and elegant, with a bouquet marked by intense dried flower fragrances, along with red forest fruit and damp earth aromas. Upon swirling the glass, we discover nuances of orange peel, menthol and licorice. The palate reveals savory touches, beautifully rounded tannins and a chalky grip on the finish. Pair it with an aged cheese like Pecorino, osso bucco or a mushroom pie.
