Riccardo Ceretto founded the Ceretto winery in Alba, a town in Piedmont, in 1930, bearing in mind the potential of this exceptional terroir in Italy.
Nearly 30 years later, his sons Bruno and Marcello Ceretto took over, with the ambition of quickly developing the estate, following their intuition, during a trip to Burgundy, that the production of "crus" in the heart of Piedmont would be possible.
More than a simple intuition, the two brothers’ idea was a veritable revolution in a terroir where the notion of "cru" had previously been non-existent.
Bruno and Marcello Ceretto carefully selected the best vineyards for great Italian red wines, particularly Barolo and Barbaresco, to enhance the quality of the wines from Langhe, the most important wine-producing area in Piedmont.
In 1969, the first Barbaresco vineyard was purchased from Bricco Asili, who gave his name to the estate's first winery, built in 1973. Three other wineries followed between 1976 and 1982.
Enhancing the typical characteristics of the Langhe region through respect for tradition and the terroir, and keeping abreast of new developments, are the watchwords of the family estate's philosophy.
In their constant quest for innovation and excellence, Bruno and Marcello Ceretto expanded the initial production of Barolo and Barbaresco to include Moscato (I Vignaioli di Santo Stefano), a white wine (Langhe Arneis Blangé) and the cultivation of other grape varieties such as Cabernet and Riesling.
In the 1990s, Lisa, Roberta, Alessandro and Federico, the children of Bruno and Marcello Ceretto, joined the estate and continued the tradition in a variety of sectors, including marketing, culture and art.
Born of an exceptional terroir and enhanced by the family's know-how, the Ceretto estate's vineyards cover 160 hectares, 4 wineries and produce 17 different wines.
