Tasting Notes and Serving Suggestions for the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Sous Frétille" 2023 by Antonin Guyon
Tasting
Color
The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille 2023 displays a luminous golden color with green highlights, typical of a young white Burgundy still in its first stage of evolution.
Nose
The nose is fresh and inviting, opening on aromas of white flowers mingled with citrus notes, giving the wine an elegant and lively first impression.
Palate
On the palate, this Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru is supple at first before gaining vibrancy, carried through to a saline, mineral finish that underlines the precision of the chardonnay grape.
Serving and cellaring
The Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Sous Frétille" 2023 is expected to evolve gracefully in the bottle, making it a wine that can be enjoyed both in its youth and after some time spent in the cellar.
The Estate
Domaine Antonin Guyon took shape in the 1960s, when its founder, Antonin Guyon, began acquiring vineyard parcels across Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The property, covering close to 50 hectares between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune, has remained entirely family-owned through three generations. Today it is directed by Dominique Guyon, alongside his brother Michel and his daughter Hombeline, who represents the estate's newest generation. Antonin Guyon is also known for its organic certification, obtained in 2018, and for its holdings spanning numerous prestigious appellations.
The Vineyard
This wine comes from the Sous Frétille climat, a Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru classified as such since 2001. Situated at elevation, this site is planted with chardonnay and benefits from the estate's broader commitment to organic viticulture, including careful soil management and manual harvesting with sorting carried out both in the vineyard and at the cellar.
Winemaking and aging
As with the rest of the Antonin Guyon range, the Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru "Sous Frétille" 2023 is aged in oak barrels, with the proportion of new wood adjusted according to the character of the vintage and the appellation. The wine is then bottled directly at the estate, within the historic cellars shared between Aloxe-Corton and Savigny-lès-Beaune.
Grape Variety
This Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru is made from 100 % chardonnay.
