Description
Arianna Occhipinti's love for wine began at the age of 16 when she visited COS winery in Sicily, owned in part by her uncle, Giusto Occhipinti. She immediately enrolled to study oenology at the university in Milan, and began making wine in her home in Vittoria while still in her twenties. Specializing in Frappato, she began to make organically farmed wines that express elegance contrasting the style of wines coming out of Sicily at the time. The Occhipinti SP 68 IGT Sicilia Rosso, named after a highway near Arianna's home, is blend of Frappato and Nero D'Avola sourced from vines averaging 10 years of age on soils of red sand and chalky subsoils. Thirty days of skin maceration, aged six months in stainless steel vats and 1 month in bottle, this wine doesn't see a day in oak, preserving the freshness and fruit of pure Frappato and Nero D'Avola. The Occhipinti SP 68 IGT Sicilia Rosso has bright aromas of raspberry, cherry and a lovely balance of fine grain tannins on the persistent finish. Fresh, pure, and vivid, this is a perfect summertime red enjoyed with grilled burgers or lamb.
