Montsecano : Refugio Pinot Noir 2012

The Montsecano Refugio Pinot Noir comes from Chile's Casablanca Valley. This cool climate region helps to keep the wine leaner and with a fresher acidity than most New World Pinot Noir. Named after the vineyard from which the grapes are sourced, Refugio is the "younger brother" to the main label of Montsecano. While this is a slightly larger production wine than the Montsecano, the production still remains under five thousand bottles total, allowing the team to keep their artisanal focus when crafting the Refugio. This wine is fermented in stainless steel and thirty percent of the wine is aged in used oak while the rest ages in stainless steel, prior to bottling. The Refugio Pinot Noir is meant to be consumed young, showing sour cherry fruit along with a distinct rustic appeal.
