Description
The 2011 Layer Cake Shiraz fruit comes from vineyard sites in the Barossa and McLaren Vale. Each of these regions provide contrasting growing conditions, which is why they are chosen to be used together to make for a more complex wine. The fruit from McLaren Vale produces rich, mouth filling wines abundant with fruit. In the Barossa, harsh dust storms and shallow red soils stress the vines, making for smaller berries with thick skins. These grapes provide the structure and intensity necessary to balance the rich ripe fruit of the McLaren Vale. Aging in 100% French oak imparts the wine with spice and cocoa notes, adding even more layers to the Layer Cake Shiraz.
