The richness and delicacy of a Margaux Cru Classé

The estate

In the heart of the Margaux appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux, lies Château Marquis de Terme. The origins of the vineyard date back to the 15th century, but the estate took on its current name in the 18th century when the Marquis de Terme took over the running of the estate. Since 1935, the Sénéclauze family has owned this Margaux Grand Cru.

The vineyard

Château Marquis de Terme’s 38-hectare vineyard is planted on deep gravel soils, a typical feature of the Margaux appellation, made up of thick quartz, quartzite and, in some areas, clay. The vines are 35 years old on average and are managed in a plot-by-plot manner with the utmost respect for the environment.

The vintage

A mild winter preceded a rainy spring, which had a significant impact on the flowering period. From April onwards, hot and dry conditions prevailed until August, which was overcast and cool with little rainfall. The hot weather at the beginning of September is ideal for refining the grapes until the harvest.

Vinification and ageing

Selection by plot. Manual harvesting. Rigorous sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar to keep only the best quality grapes. Vinification in temperature-controlled concrete vats. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new.

The blend

Château Marquis de Terme 2006 comprises a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Merlot (22%) and Petit Verdot (7%).
