Description
The aromatic finesse and smoothness of a fine Saint-Julien wine
The estate
With vintages that achieve the feat, vintage after vintage, of reaching the heights of excellence and elegance, today Château Léoville Las Cases is one of the finest Saint-Julien wines, a prestigious appellation located on the left bank of the Bordeaux region.
The vineyard
Château Léoville Las Cases’ 55 hectares of vines are planted within the famous Clos de Léoville, its complexity constitutes a real patchwork of terroirs. Located near the Gironde estuary, the vineyard benefits from the estuary’s temperature-regulating influence, which guarantees mild temperatures and provides a barrier against frost. Along with the presence of Günzian gravel soils and resting on gravelly-sandy subsoils with clay that is more or less deep, the terroir of Château Léoville Las Cases encompasses all the conditions required to produce vintages with a legendary identity.
The vintage
Although the cool conditions at the beginning of spring delayed budburst, the subsequent mild conditions ensured an even and high-quality flowering period. The summer was dry and sunny. The grapes were harvested at optimum ripeness and from a perfectly healthy vineyard.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (76%)
Merlot (15%)
Cabernet Franc (9%).
