Description
A great Italian wine from Antinori, bold yet delicate
The estate
The Antinori family has been producing wine for six centuries. Indeed, Villa Antinori stems from an idea, a way of viewing winemaking: combining experimentation and evolution with tradition. Villa Antinori has always remained true to the rules of the art, by being in line with tradition and treating the land with the utmost respect, in order to offer wines that are both elegant and fine, while maintaining an original character.
The vineyard
Villa Antinori is the name given to the place occupied by the Antinori family near Florence in the Villa del Cigliano where the agricultural activities are carried out and where these fine Tuscan wines are made.
The vintage
The 2019 vintage began with dry weather that lasted through the first part of spring, followed by cooler temperatures and rainfall that slowed the initial growth of the vines and caused a two-week delay. The summer months were warm with rainfall scattered throughout the season allowing the grapes to begin an optimal ripening period. At harvest time, the grapes display a nice balance between acidity and sugar concentration levels, as well as an excellent aromatic potential thanks to the significant temperature variations between day and night during the last weeks of the ripening process.
Winemaking and ageing
The harvested grapes were destemmed, gently crushed and then transferred to temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Alcoholic fermentation took place over a period of 5 to 7 days while maceration of the skins lasted 8 to 12 days. Fermentation temperatures for the Cabernet Sauvignon , Sangiovese and Petit Verdot varieties never exceeded 28 degrees, in order to gently extract and preserve the supple tannins. Malolactic fermentation was completed at the end of the year for all varieties and the wine was then transferred to French, Hungarian and American oak barrels. The 2019 Villa Antinori wine was bottled from July 2021.
