Battaglione, the Authentic Expression of Barbera d'Asti by Renato Ratti
The Estate
The Renato Ratti house, an iconic name in Piedmont, was officially founded in 1965 when Renato Ratti acquired his first vineyard in Marcenasco, La Morra. Today led by Pietro Ratti, the founder's son, the estate spans approximately fifty hectares across La Morra, Mango, Costigliole d'Asti, and Dogliani. Renowned for its pioneering role in mapping the Barolo crus and inventing the Albeisa bottle, the house embodies a unique balance between historical tradition and winemaking innovation.
The Vineyard
The grapes for the Battaglione Barbera d'Asti DOP come partly from the estate's vines located at Villa Pattono, in Costigliole d'Asti, and partly from other vineyards spread across the hills of Asti. This dual territorial foundation allows for a blend of complementary grapes, reflecting the richness of the Monferrato terroirs dedicated to Barbera.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for Battaglione 2025 are hand-harvested in September, then destemmed and pressed. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by skin maceration for approximately two weeks. Malolactic fermentation is also carried out in stainless steel tanks, preserving the purity of the fruit and the characteristic freshness of the grape variety.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Barbera grapes.
