Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots" 2023 Pierre Girardin
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a deep ruby robe with garnet highlights, typical of the pinot noir grown on this premier cru terroir.
Nose
The bouquet unfolds with ripe red and black fruit aromas, cherry, raspberry and cassis, enhanced by delicate floral nuances reminiscent of rose and violet.
Palate
The palate reveals present yet refined tannins, carried by a lively acidity that brings tension and energy, leading to a long finish marked by the persistence of dark fruit and a subtle saline touch.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with roasted pigeon served with a truffled red wine jus, as well as with beef tenderloin accompanied by a mushroom-based sauce. It also complements dishes built around forest mushrooms, such as ceps or morels, which echo the wine's earthy, spiced undertones.
Serving and cellaring
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots" 2023 is best served at a temperature of around 16 to 18°C. Given its structure, decanting is recommended in its youth to allow the bouquet to open fully and the tannins to soften.
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots": A Structured Red from Pierre Girardin's Côte de Nuits Terroir
The Estate
Domaine Pierre Girardin was founded in 2016 by Pierre-Vincent Girardin, representing the thirteenth generation of winegrowers in his family in Burgundy. Based in Meursault, the estate grew to 13 hectares by 2025, spanning the Côte de Beaune, the Côte de Nuits and the Jura. Pierre-Vincent Girardin, son of renowned vigneron Vincent Girardin, leads the property today, combining inherited expertise with organic farming practices and a precise, terroir-focused winemaking approach.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from the Vosne-Romanée appellation, specifically the "Grands Suchots" section, adjacent to the Richebourg grand cru, in the upper part of the climat. The vines here are over 70 years old and grow on clay-limestone soils, offering a balance between drainage and water retention. The vineyard is farmed using organic practices, and harvesting is carried out by hand.
Winemaking and aging
Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Les Suchots" 2023 is vinified using 100 % whole clusters, fermented with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for 12 months in 100 % new oak barrels, followed by three months in stainless steel tanks, without fining or filtration, preserving the natural texture and depth of the fruit.
Grape Varieties
100 % pinot noir.
