A seductive Tuscan wine full of freshness and precision

The Producer
Founded in 1987 in Bolgheri in Tuscany, the Masseto estate extends over 7 hectares of vineyards on exceptional clay soils, perfectly suited for Merlot. Owned by the Marchesi de Frescobaldi since 2005, this exceptional estate is managed by Giovanni Geddes da Filicaja, with Michel Rolland as oenological consultant since 1991. Recognized worldwide as one of the greatest Italian wines, it is praised by international critics for its excellence.

The Vineyards
Massetino comes from vineyards in Bolgheri, located in Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno. This Tuscan terroir benefits from the IGT Toscana appellation and offers ideal conditions for Merlot and Cabernet Franc to thrive.

The Vintage
The 2023 year proved to be challenging, beginning with a mild winter with temperatures and rainfall slightly above average, favoring early vegetative growth. Spring brought abundant rain, which replenished water reserves and required constant work in the vineyard. Summer saw high temperatures up to 35°C without extreme peaks, allowing for even ripening of the berries thanks to the spring water reserves. Rains at the end of August and cool nights in September enhanced aromatic complexity, preserved acidity, and balanced phenolic and technological maturity.

Vinification and Aging
The grapes are harvested by hand in 15 kg crates. After destemming and gentle pressing, they are transported by gravity into concrete tanks without pumping. Each plot is vinified separately. Spontaneous fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts at 25–28°C with 2 to 3 pump-overs per day. Maceration lasts 21 to 25 days in tanks. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barriques, 50% of which are new. Aging lasts 12 months in barriques before blending, followed by another 4 months in concrete tanks before bottling.
