Description
Tasting notes and characteristics of Montagny 2023 by Louis Latour
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a pale yellow hue with green highlights, a sign of youth consistent with stainless-steel vinification and a style built around freshness.
Nose
The nose reveals aromas of fresh hazelnut, vanilla, and acacia honey, combining a gentle floral sweetness with a touch of toasted character inherited from the chardonnay's ripeness rather than from any barrel influence.
Palate
The palate is full and round, bringing forward notes of exotic fruit before closing on a finish with a subtle peppery touch, giving the wine both generosity and liveliness.
Food and wine pairings
This Montagny 2023 pairs nicely with delicate dishes such as asparagus, a rabbit galantine, trout with almonds, or sheep's milk cheeses, and more broadly with light, refined preparations that call for a fresh, aromatic white wine.
Serving and cellaring
Montagny 2023 is best served at a temperature of 12 to 14 °C (around 54 to 57 °F). It can already be enjoyed on release and will keep well until around 2028.
The Estate
Founded in 1797 in Aloxe-Corton, Burgundy, Maison Louis Latour remains an independent, family-run house, now guided by Florent Latour. With about 48 hectares of vines, including some 27 hectares of Grand Cru, it holds the largest Grand Cru vineyard area in Burgundy. Admitted to the Hénokiens circle of bicentennial family businesses in 1997, the house combines deep-rooted tradition with an early commitment to sustainable viticulture, while also sourcing and shaping wines such as Montagny through its négociant-éleveur expertise.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this Montagny come from the southern hills of the Côte Chalonnaise, about 30 kilometers south of Beaune, on well-exposed slopes with limestone, clay, and chalky soils. The vines average around 30 years of age, are harvested mechanically, and yield approximately 45 hectoliters per hectare, reflecting a balance between concentration and freshness typical of the appellation.
Winemaking and aging
Montagny 2023 is vinified using a traditional method in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks, with full malolactic fermentation to soften its acidity while preserving aromatic purity. The wine is then aged for 8 to 10 months in stainless-steel tanks before bottling, a choice that keeps the focus on fruit expression rather than any oak influence.
Grape Varieties
This wine is made from 100% chardonnay.
