Tasting
Nose
The nose opens on fine red fruit aromas, underscored by delicate floral touches and hints of undergrowth, with notes of incense adding a touch of complexity to this classic rendition of Chambolle-Musigny.
Palate
The palate shows a medium-bodied frame built around graceful, fine-grained tannins and a soft, silky texture. The wine closes on a smooth, slightly spicy finish that echoes the airy, nuanced character typical of pinot noir grown on limestone.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with fine meats such as poultry, lamb, and small game, as well as soft-rind cheeses, echoing the graceful yet structured profile of this cuvée.
Serving and cellaring
The Chambolle-Musigny Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 already reveals immediate charm and suppleness, making it particularly enjoyable in its youth, while its fine tannic structure also allows it to evolve further with time in the cellar.
An Elegant, Old-Vine Expression of Chambolle-Musigny from Domaine Virgile Lignier-Michelot
The Estate
Domaine Virgile Lignier-Michelot is a family estate in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, representing three generations of the Lignier family. Virgile Lignier began estate bottling with the 1992 vintage and took full technical control in 2000, steering the domaine toward organic-based viticulture from 2010 onward. Today run jointly with Laure Lignier, the roughly twelve-hectare property is known for its old vines, modest yields, and a refined, terroir-driven style across Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin, Fixin, and Nuits-Saint-Georges.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from old vines in Chambolle-Musigny, roughly 80 years of age, spread across two separate lieux-dits. The appellation's mid-slope parcels rest on thin, well-drained limestone and gravel soils that favor a delicate, aromatic expression of pinot noir. In keeping with the estate's broader practices, the vines are tended with attention to soil health and biodiversity, with chemical herbicides excluded and the vineyard managed along organic-based principles since 2010.
Winemaking and aging
The Chambolle-Musigny Village "Vieilles Vignes" 2023 was vinified with a notably high proportion of whole-cluster fermentation, following a cold pre-fermentation maceration and spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts. After an extraction period of about twenty days without post-fermentation heating, the wine was aged in oak barrels, with only a modest share of new wood, before a brief finishing period in stainless steel ahead of bottling without fining and with minimal filtration.

100 % pinot noir.
