Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes of the Meursault 1er Cru "Genevrières" 2023 – Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils
Tasting
Color
This Meursault 1er Cru "Genevrières" 2023 displays a bright, pale golden hue with great clarity.
Nose
The nose is complex and evolving, opening with notes of white and orchard blossoms, lemon flower and honeysuckle. Orchard fruit and citrus aromas follow, with hints of candied orange and pomelo, layered with fine spices such as nutmeg, saffron and white pepper. A chalky, flinty minerality completes the bouquet.
Palate
The palate is ample, precise and subtly fleshy, built around a fine acid tension that carries the wine's volume. Orchard fruit and citrus marmalade flavors mingle with refined spice notes, while a chalky, flinty minerality lingers on the palate. The finish is remarkably persistent and sapid.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with refined seafood such as scallops, lobster or sole in delicate sauces, as well as with sweetbreads and dishes enhanced with truffle. It also complements creamy preparations and fine white meats.
Serving and cellaring
It is best served at a temperature of 12 to 13°C, ideally after decanting or at least two hours of aeration to allow its aromatic complexity to fully unfold.
The Estate
Domaine Michel Bouzereau et Fils was founded in 1971 in Meursault, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, though the Bouzereau family has cultivated vines in the village for seven generations. Today the estate is run by Jean‑Baptiste Bouzereau, who took over management in 1999. Spanning 10.5 hectares, the property is dedicated to meticulous, soil‑focused viticulture inspired by organic and biodynamic principles, producing white wines from Meursault and Puligny‑Montrachet alongside a few reds from Volnay and Beaune.
The Vineyard
The Genevrières 1er Cru parcel lies within the Meursault appellation, in Burgundy, on the Genevrières Dessous section of the climat, between Les Combettes and Les Perrières. This 0.52‑hectare plot rests on a very stony clay‑limestone soil, with vines planted between 1987 and 1990. The parcel is farmed according to organic principles, with particular attention paid to soil health.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for this Meursault 1er Cru "Genevrières" 2023 are harvested entirely by hand, then gently pressed. Fermentation relies on indigenous yeasts, and the wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in oak barrels, with about 25% new wood, allowing the terroir's expression to come through with precision.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% chardonnay.
