The Estate

Domaine Alain Burguet was founded in 1974 in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the heart of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits, when Alain Burguet purchased his first 2.10 hectares of vines. The estate grew steadily over the following decades, later extending into Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and Meursault through grape purchases from partner growers. Alain was an early adopter of organic farming, choosing never to seek official certification. Today the property, covering close to ten hectares, is run by Jean-Luc Burguet, who took over full direction of the domaine in 2023.

The Vineyard

This Vosne-Romanée from Domaine Alain Burguet comes from the Les Rouges du Dessus climat, located just above the Grand Cru Echezeaux on a steep slope at around 300 meters of altitude, bordering the forest. The vines, averaging about 50 years of age, grow in marl and limestone soils that offer good water retention along with solid drainage, encouraging a slow, complete ripening of the grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand under the direct supervision of the Burguet team, who select the picking date and carry out the sorting themselves.

Winemaking and aging

For the Vosne-Romanée 2019, grapes are fully destemmed and sorted three times: first in the vineyard, then on a vibrating sorting table, and finally through a state-of-the-art destemmer that keeps only whole, undamaged berries. Fermentation and maceration take place naturally over about three weeks without temperature control, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs. The wine is then aged in Burgundian oak barrels for 16 to 18 months, with 35 to 50 % new oak, before being bottled by gravity without filtration and with minimal doses of sulfur.
