Characteristics and tasting tips for Château Quintus 2023

Tasting

Colour
Brilliant, the colour reveals a beautiful red hue.

Nose
Intense, the nose exhales subtle fruity notes (red and black fruits) and woody notes.

Palate
Powerful and concentrated, the attack gives way to a palate combining delicate tannins with a rich aromatic palette.

A Saint-Émilion wine seductive in complexity and aromatic expression

The estate

The Château Quintus was born from the union of the terroirs of Château Tertre Daugay and Château L’Arrosée, acquired by the family company Domaine Clarence Dillon in 2011 and 2013 respectively. Château Quintus is thus the fifth property of the Domaine Clarence Dillon group, alongside Châteaux Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The estate takes its name from the Gallo-Roman tradition of naming one's fifth child Quintus.

The vineyard

Château Quintus is a Saint-Émilion wine from a 42-hectare vineyard, unique for its mosaic of terroirs. The vines, averaging 30 years old, are planted on the plateau, on a succession of south-facing limestone strata, as well as on clay-limestone and gravel soils exposed south to the north of the property.

The vintage

A mild winter, except in February marked by relative coolness, precedes a wet spring with cool nights. Despite these conditions, flowering is rapid and homogeneous. Almost tropical, the end of spring leads to high sanitary pressure controlled by the reactivity and know-how of the teams. The summer is cool before a warm and dry September ensuring optimal maturity and concentration of the berries.

Vinification and ageing

Meticulous sorting in the vineyard and in the cellar to keep only the most qualitative grapes. Ageing in barrels (of which 38.1% are new).

Blend

Merlot (78.3%)
Cabernet Franc (21.7%)
