Description

The richness of a sumptuous Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion

The estate

The Château La Mondotte is a wine estate dating from the 19th century. Relatively recent, this Premier Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion is managed by Stephan von Neipperg. Belonging to a German family steeped in the world of winemaking for nearly eight centuries, Stephan von Neipperg runs Château La Mondotte with passion and talent.

The vineyard

Château La Mondotte has a 4.5-hectare vineyard to the east of Saint-Émilion. The old vines, averaging 60 years of age, are planted on a mosaic of terroirs with silty clay soils over a rocky subsoil. The vineyard is managed under certified Organic Agriculture.

Blend

Merlot (75 %) and Cabernet Franc (25 %).

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château La Mondotte 2018

Tasting

Nose
Endowed with extraordinary aromatic richness, the nose opens with intense red and black fruit notes evoking raspberry, blackcurrant and plum. Floral notes of violet then emerge, highlighting a finesse of mineral notes reminiscent of the terroir’s limestone identity.

Palate
Powerful, the palate offers a splendid expression of fruit, structured by a fine tannic texture. The wine’s lively acidity extends its development on the palate into an incredibly persistent and fresh finish. A sumptuous La Mondotte vintage destined for excellent ageing potential.
