Robert Parker

Neal Martin

The 2014 La Fleur Peyrabon has plenty of smudged raspberry coulis and graphite scents on the nose, forward and just needing a little more clarity. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, simple tobacco-tinged red fruit with an easy-going finish. Drink over the next 4-5 years. Tasted September 2016.

Inky bright purple colour. Floral and fragrant nose displaying violet, cassis, dark cherry, tobacco and fine oak. The palate is dense and fresh with fine proportions, ripe but young tannin, layers of inky dark fruit, cassis and plum notes with a mild spiciness and a long pure finish.

Bettane+Desseauve

A nose of great suavity, delicate, with complex aromas of very ripe red and black fruits, spicy, smoky and floral notes; a broad, candid palate with rounded tannins and vigour on the finish. Flattering and balanced.

A small part of Château Peyrabon (Haut-Médoc) is in the Pauillac appellation and is vinified and bottled separately. The wine delivers great fruit and equal richness. It is spice, packed with black plum and berry flavors. It is a powerful dense wine to age for several years. Drink from 2023.

Description

The precision and expression of a Pauillac red wine

The property

In the heart of the Pauillac appellation, the Château La Fleur Peyrabon is a property of great personality. On the left bank of Bordeaux, this property has been brilliantly managed by Patrick Bernard since 1998, who makes it a point of honor to produce elegant and refined wines.

The vineyard

Located in the commune of Saint-Sauveur on the left bank of the Bordeaux region, the vineyard of Château La Fleur Peyrabon benefits from a very large sandy gravel terroir resting on clay subsoils, which allows the birth of typical crus of the Pauillac appellation.

Vinification and aging

Hand harvesting followed by rigorous sorting and destemming. Vinification in concrete vats (merlot) and barrels (on cabernet lots). Maceration of about 21 days. Progressive extraction before malolactic fermentation and aging for 14 months in barrels (of which 50% are new).

Blend

Cabernet sauvignon and merlot.

Characteristics and tasting advice for Château La Fleur Peyrabon 2014

Tasting

Nose
The nose is dense, expressive, opulent with plump black fruits (burlat cherry, cassis cream) and shows a pleasant freshness.

Palate
A frank acidity attack precedes a structured mid-palate (with elegance) on tannins full of flesh (almost creamy) even appearing in silk: the grain is noble.
