Description

A Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" of Saint-Émilion imbued with freshness and concentration

The estate
The Château-Figeac, an emblematic estate of Bordeaux, dates back to Gallo-Roman times, with archaeological remains bearing witness to its rich past. Since 2022, it has been classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé, a recognition of its excellence. For over 120 years, the Manoncourt family, notably Thierry Manoncourt, has marked its history with rigorous viticultural practices. On September 8, 2022, Château-Figeac was elevated to the rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé "A" in the Saint-Émilion Classification of Great Growths.

The vineyard
As an iconic estate within the Saint-Émilion winegrowing landscape, Figeac stands out for its unique terroir at the western extremity of the appellation, bordering Pomerol. Its vineyard rests on three magnificent gravel ridges, offering great geological diversity. The focus on preserving natural ecosystems reflects the estate's deep commitment to environmental balance.

The vintage
The growing season at Château-Figeac was characterized by total commitment in the face of capricious weather. Despite flowering being disrupted by spring rains, veraison occurred under better conditions, promoting a gradual ripening of the grapes. The summer months helped to partially offset the effects of the climate, but September rains complicated the management of maturity. The harvest thus required great precision and bold decisions, driven by a team attentive and responsive at every stage.

Vinification and aging
The demanding harvest was carried out with rigorous selection both in the vineyard and in the winery. Nearly a quarter of the grapes were discarded, a testament to the unwavering commitment to quality. Vinification began with cold maceration, followed by fermentations under optimal conditions. The maceration lasted between 3 and 4 weeks, allowing for precise extraction of aromas and tannins. The malolactic fermentation contributed to the freshness, the controlled concentration, and the precise fruit expression that characterize this vintage.

Blend
This 2024 Château-Figeac is made from a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (39%), Merlot (33%) and Cabernet Franc (28%).
