Description

An elegant Premier Grand Cru Classe from Saint-Emilion with a beautiful aromatic richness

The estate

A Premier Grand Cru Classe de Saint-Emilion, Chateau Figeac embodies the excellence of great Bordeaux wines. Owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years, Chateau Figeac is co-managed by Jean-Valmy Nicolas and Manager Frederic Faye.

The vineyard

Chateau Figeac enjoys an exceptional location, west of the Saint-Emilion appellation, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard of the property extends over 40 hectares of vines and is planted on 3 hills of different gravel soils. At the core of the estate is a profound respect for biodiversity, the flora and fauna of the region.

The vintage

A rainy autumn preceded a particularly hot and dry winter. The warm spring was counterbalanced by high humidity, conditions favorable for an early budding of the vines two weeks ahead of schedule. Cool and humid weather during April and May caused concern about the health of the vineyard. In mid-May, early flowering took place under very good conditions. While June was cool, summer conditions were hot and dry. The strategic choices in the management of the vineyard (light leaf stripping, shallow plowing, green harvest adapted to the potential of each vine) allowed for a gradual development of the vegetative cycle of each plot. Sufficient water reserves thanks to the spring rains protected the vineyard from water stress and helped to refine ripening. The grapes harvested were of high quality, combining aromatic freshness, texture and density.

Vinification and aging

Plot-based vinification, without sulfur added, carried out gently in order to preserve the integrity of the fruit.

The blend

The Chateau Figeac 2020 is made from a blend of Merlot (37%), Cabernet Sauvignon (31%) and Cabernet Franc (32%).

The tasting

Color

The wine is a beautiful cardinal red color, adorned with subtle shiny reflections.

Nose

The nose combines gourmet aromas of ripe red fruits with delicate spicy notes of white pepper.

Palate

The palate seduces with its smooth attack, elegant tannins, and velvety feel. Its extremely rich aromatic palette combines floral (rose, violet) and fruity (blackcurrant, stewed strawberries) aromas. This Chateau Figeac 2020 stands out for its precision, its purity, its balance and its persistent and fine finish.
