Description

An exceptionally harmonious and mineral Saint-Emilion from the unique terroir of Chateau Figeac

The estate
A Premier Grand Cru Classe de Saint-Emilion, Chateau Figeac embodies the excellence of great Bordeaux wines. Owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years, Chateau Figeac is co-managed by Jean-Valmy Nicolas and Manager Frederic Faye.

The vineyard
Chateau Figeac enjoys an exceptional location, west of the Saint-Emilion appellation, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. The vineyard of the property extends over 40 hectares of vines and is planted on 3 hills of different gravel soils. At the core of the estate is a profound respect for biodiversity, the flora and fauna of the region.

The vintage
After a historically mild winter, which led to an early bud burst, the threat of frost appeared during 4 nights in April and May. From mid-June, high summer temperatures set in and the vines caught up on their growth cycle. Plots most exposed to the sun were not stripped of their leaves, in order to avoid sun burns. The thermal amplitudes of August helped the maturation of polyphenols and resulted in a good concentration of aromas in the fruit, which also retained a nice freshness. The harvest of Chateau Figeac began on September 13 and ended 4 weeks later, yielding superb grapes. The vinification of the 2019 vintage was carried out gently and without the use of sulfur. The extraction program was specifically adapted to each vat. From the very beginning, the 2019 harvest of Chateau Figeac promised to yield an exceptional vintage.

The blend
Merlot (30%), cabernet sauvignon (34%), cabernet franc (36%).

The tasting
Tasted as a wine future, the Premier Grand Cru Classe of Saint-Emilion Chateau Figeac 2019 confirmed the very high quality of this superb vintage ending in -9. The wine displays a deep amaranth red color, with shimmering purple reflections. The intensely aromatic and very pure bouquet expresses the typicity of each grape variety. Cabernet punctuates the bouquet with notes of red and black fruit, along with delicate floral fragrances. On the palate, the attack reveals the dense and delicious texture of the Chateau Figeac 2019. The palate is harmonious, evolving a mouth-coating texture, testifying to the fine quality of the Merlot. This wine offers an incredibly persistent finish with great finesse, and the minerality of the Cabernet brings a great freshness to this deliciously fruity wine. The Chateau Figeac 2019 is polished, reflecting the unique nature of its great terroir in a fantastic year ending in -9, surely one of the greatest vintages to be produced at the estate.
