Description
The singularity of the terroir in an exceptional harmonious and mineral Saint-Émilion
The estate
Premier Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Émilion, Château-Figeac embodies the excellence of great Bordeaux wines worldwide. Owned by the Manoncourt family for over 120 years, Château-Figeac is co-managed by Jean-Valmy Nicolas and its director, Frédéric Faye.
The vineyard
Château-Figeac benefits from an exceptional location to the west of the Saint-Émilion appellation, on the edge of the Pomerol appellation. The estate’s vineyard covers 40 hectares of vines and is planted on three distinct gravel knolls. Respect for biodiversity, flora and fauna is at the heart of the estate’s concerns.
The vintage
After an historically mild winter that brought about early bud break of the vine, frost threats appeared over four nights in April and May. It was from mid-June, with a spectacular climatic shift and high summer temperatures, that the vine caught up on its delay. The plots most exposed to the sun were not subjected to leaf thinning to avoid sunburn. The diurnal temperature variations in August promoted polyphenol ripening and a fine concentration of aromas while retaining great freshness. Harvesting began on September 13 and concluded four weeks later with superb grapes. The vinifications of the 2019 vintage were carried out gently and without the use of sulfur, with an extraction program adapted to each vat. From the first racking, the 2019 harvest left no doubt as to the exceptional character of this vintage.
Blend
Merlot (30%), Cabernet Sauvignon (34%), Cabernet Franc (36%).
Characteristics and Tasting Recommendations for Château-Figeac 2020
Tasting
Color
The color displays a deep amaranth red hue with shimmering purple highlights. Intensely aromatic and of great purity.
Nose
The bouquet expresses the typicity of each grape variety. The Cabernets punctuate the bouquet with notes of red and black fruits accompanied by delicate floral nuances.
Palate
On the palate, the attack reveals from the very first moments a dense and rich texture. Harmonious, the palate develops by unfolding a caressing substance that attests to the fine quality of the Merlots. In an incredibly persistent finish, the finesse and minerality of the Cabernets bring great, delightfully fruity freshness. Sculpted and reflecting the full uniqueness of its original terroir, this '9 vintage will go down in history as one of the estate’s great years.
