Description
The richness and unctuousness of a Second Wine from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Nestled on the south-facing slope of the medieval city of Saint-Émilion, Château Ausone boasts a rich and complex history dating back to Roman times. Its very name evokes the Roman poet Ausonius, who, according to legend, once owned a villa on these lands. Over the centuries, this emblematic estate has become a true flagship of Bordeaux winemaking, combining tradition, elegance, and unrivaled expertise.
The vineyard
Spanning nearly 7 hectares, the Château Ausone vineyard is situated on a hillside, benefiting from an ideal exposure and a unique terroir. The soils, made up of a blend of clay over asteria limestone, give these great Saint-Émilion wines a minerality and finesse that have earned the estate its renown. The estate's exceptional location and small size allow for close attention to every vine, ensuring consistent quality, vintage after vintage.
The wine
Chapelle d'Ausone is the estate's Second Wine.
The name "Chapelle" evokes the estate's small chapel, a silent witness to the generations who have worked these lands and shaped the distinctive character of the wines it produces.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation in oak vats. Aged for 20 months in barrels (80% new).
Blend
The Chapelle d'Ausone 2016 is a blend of Cabernet Franc (56%), Merlot (22%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (22%).
