Description
A vivid and structured Second Wine from Saint-Émilion
The estate
Nestled on the southern slope of the medieval town of Saint-Émilion, Château Ausone boasts a rich and complex history dating back to Roman times. Its very name evokes the Roman poet Ausonius, who, according to legend, owned a villa on these lands. Over the centuries, this emblematic estate has become a true standard-bearer xxxx Bordeaux winemaking, combining tradition, elegance, and unrivaled expertise.
The vineyard
Spanning nearly 7 hectares, the Château Ausone vineyard is located on a hillside, benefiting from an ideal exposure and a unique terroir. The soils, a blend of clay over asteria limestone, give these great Saint-Émilion wines a minerality and finesse that have earned the estate its renown. The exceptional location and the small size of the estate allow for particular attention to be given to each vine, ensuring consistent quality vintage after vintage.
The wine
The estate's Second Wine, this Chapelle d'Ausone 2010 is crafted from vines averaging 15 years of age.
The name "Chapelle" evokes the estate's small chapel, a silent witness to the generations who have worked this land and shaped the distinctive character of the wines it produces.
Winemaking and aging
Fermentation takes place in oak vats, as does the four-week maceration period. Aging lasts around 20 months in barrels (100% new).
Blend
La Chapelle d'Ausone 2010 is a blend of Cabernet Franc (65%), Merlot (25%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (10%).
