Description
The richness and finesse of an iconic Saint-Émilion wine
The estate
Nestled on the south-facing slope of the medieval city of Saint-Émilion, Château Ausone boasts a rich and complex history dating back to Roman times. Its very name evokes the Roman poet Ausonius, who, according to legend, owned a villa on these lands. Over the centuries, this iconic estate has become a true flagship of Bordeaux winemaking, combining tradition, elegance, and unrivaled expertise.
The vineyard
Spanning nearly 7 hectares, the vineyard of Château Ausone is set on a hillside, benefiting from an ideal exposure and a unique terroir. The soils, composed of a blend of clay over asteria limestone, lend these great Saint-Émilion wines a minerality and finesse that have made the estate's reputation. The exceptional location and small size of the estate allow for meticulous attention to each vine, ensuring consistent quality vintage after vintage.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking is carried out with meticulous care. The grapes are hand-harvested, then precisely sorted. They are then fermented in temperature-controlled concrete vats before being aged in new oak barrels. This approach, combining tradition and innovation, draws out the very best of the fruit while preserving its integrity, resulting in wines of remarkable finesse and depth.
Blend
Cabernet Franc and Merlot.
