Description
Tasting and Serving Notes for Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 Bouchard Père & Fils
Tasting
Color
The wine shows a light ruby color, a hue that reflects a measured extraction and announces a refined, elegant style rather than a dense or opaque appearance.
Nose
The nose opens on red and dark berries, enhanced by sweet spice notes and touches of blood orange. Hints of dried flowers add a floral dimension, while nuances of baking chocolate and a light peppery accent bring additional complexity to this aromatic profile.
Palate
The palate is medium to full-bodied, with a fine-boned, melting texture. The wine comes across as pure, sensual and seamless, carried by bright acidity that leads to a mouthwatering, saline finish. The tannins are fine yet show some grip, giving the wine a gracefully structured backbone.
Food and wine pairings
Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 pairs beautifully with noble red meats such as roasted beef tenderloin, matured rib of beef, or rosy veal, especially when served with a reduced meat jus. It also complements feathered game like pigeon, partridge or wild duck, whose slightly ferrous character echoes the wine's blood orange notes. For a more contemporary approach, it can accompany grilled wagyu beef or roasted root vegetables paired with a meat reduction and a touch of cocoa or sweet spice.
Serving and cellaring
Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 is best served at a temperature of around 61 to 64°F (16 to 18°C). Decanting is recommended in its youth, allowing the wine to open up gently and the tannins to soften, ideally about an hour before serving. Large, wide-bowled glasses will help capture the complexity of its bouquet.
Other characteristics
This grand cru favors finesse and freshness over sheer power, with a medium to full body supported by fine-grained tannins and lively acidity. The saline finish underscores a mineral sensibility that runs through the wine, balancing its aromatic richness with a sense of tension and precision.
Chambertin Grand Cru from Bouchard Père & Fils, a Burgundy Grand Cru Marked by Finesse
The Estate
Bouchard Père & Fils was founded in 1731 in Beaune, Burgundy, initially as a trading house before becoming one of the region's most significant wine estates. Since 2022, the house has been part of Artémis Domaines, the wine group owned by the Pinault family, led by Frédéric Engerer. The estate itself is managed by Emmanuel Dumont as general manager and Mickaël Baroin as technical director. Rooted in the historic Château de Beaune, the property is known for its vast patrimony of prestigious climats and its ongoing shift toward sustainable and organic viticulture.
The Vineyard
The Chambertin grand cru vines of Bouchard Père & Fils are located in Gevrey-Chambertin, in the Côte de Nuits, on a plot situated at the top of the slope, adjoining the Latricières-Chambertin climat. This elevated position tends to favor cooler temperatures and a more gradual ripening, contributing to a style with freshness and lift. The vineyard is farmed under sustainable viticulture practices, certified HVE3, reflecting the estate's broader commitment to environmentally responsible farming.
The Vintage
The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is generally regarded as a year of full ripeness, shaped by warm conditions that nonetheless retained an overall sense of balance. These growing conditions allowed the grapes to reach good maturity while preserving freshness in the fruit, a balance that is reflected in the resulting wine.
Winemaking and aging
Chambertin Grand Cru 2022 was vinified at the Cuverie Saint-Vincent in Savigny-lès-Beaune, a gravity-fed facility built below ground level to allow for a gentle, precise approach to each individual cuvée. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in oak barrels within the historic cellars of the Château de Beaune, where stable, cool conditions support a careful, unhurried maturation.
Grape Varieties
100% pinot noir.
