Description
The elegance and structure of an exceptional Tuscan wine
The estate
Passionate and in perpetual pursuit of innovation, Bibi Graetz has become, vintage after vintage, an iconic producer whose wines captivate beyond borders for their harmonious and singular expression of the finest terroirs of Tuscany.
Distinctive in character, Bibi Graetz's wines are crafted from old vineyards made up of a mosaic of grape varieties typical of the great Italian wines (sangiovese, canaiolo, colorino, ansonica).
The wine
"Colore" is a cuvée dear to Bibi Graetz, as it marks the fulfillment of one of his dreams.
Colore is crafted from three vineyards (Lamole, Vincigliata, and Siena) of very old sangiovese vines, located at high altitude. This exceptional terroir, with its poor soils composed of sand and rock, gives rise to a singular wine that authentically reflects the elegance, refinement, and richness of Tuscany.
The 2019 vintage celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Colore cuvée. For this occasion, a special label adorns the bottle of this great Tuscan wine.
The vintage
A cold, dry winter preceded a spring whose moderate rainfall levels curbed the development of disease. A drop in temperatures recorded before the harvest encouraged gradual ripening of the fruit's berries, ensuring a superb aromatic expression. The ideal balance between humidity and warmth allowed grapes of exceptional quality to be harvested between September 21 and October 8.
Winemaking and aging
Carried out exclusively by hand, successive harvests involving up to eight passes make it possible to select and pick berries at perfect ripeness. Sorted once again upon arrival at the winery, the grapes are then destemmed before undergoing gentle pressing. Natural fermentations are carried out plot by plot in open vats, accompanied by six to eight manual punch-downs and pump-overs per day. Following a week-long maceration, the wines are transferred into new barrels for malolactic fermentation. Plot-by-plot aging lasts at least 20 months before the final blend. Across the entire production, only the finest barrels are selected to produce this cuvée.
Blend
Bibi Graetz's Colore 2019 is 100% sangiovese.
