Description
A Classic Organic Montepulciano
Avignonesi winery is located in the village of Valiano just a few miles away from the historic town of Montepulciano. Named after the original owners of the estate, this winery helped boost the DOCG Vino Nobile di Montepulciano to fame in the 1980s. Now owned by Virginie Saverys, Avignonesi looks to continue this legacy started by the founders, while also incorporating organic farming techniques.
With over 400 acres of vines, eight vineyards in the Montepulciano region and one in the Cortona area, Avignonesi looks to make wines which reflect the complexity and beauty of the range of terroir. The 2014 vintage was an especially tough year with little sunshine and barely a summer, however this wine shines with freshness and classic characteristics. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is made up of 100% Sangiovese grapes sourced from seven different vineyards around Montepulciano mostly with clay rich soils. Each lot is fermented separately and indigenous yeast is used to preserve the characteristics of each lot. On the nose you have a classic Montepulciano wine with red berry aromas and some floral undertones. The palate tastes exactly how the nose presents it – with great fresh fruit. It also has silky tannins and a lovely mineral finish.
