Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of the Tignanello 2023
Tasting
Color
This wine reveals an intense ruby red color, reflecting its youth and beautiful concentration.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is complex, opening with notes of ripe cherries, pomegranate and orange. It then evolves toward delicate floral touches of hibiscus and violet, before revealing nuances of sweet spices such as cocoa, pencil lead, white pepper and cranberry.
Palate
The attack is pure and precise. The mid-palate is juicy and full-bodied, supported by silky, supple tannins of great refinement. The long, flavorful finish leaves lovely impressions of blood orange and toasted hazelnut.
Food and wine pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted red meats accompanied by rich sauces, as well as traditional dishes such as wild boar, venison or braised beef short ribs. It also pairs perfectly with mushroom-based recipes, aged cheeses, or poultry dressed with fruit sauces. For an echo of its finish, a duck breast with orange reduction or a hazelnut-crusted pork tenderloin would be ideal.
Service and storage
With its vibrant energy and harmonious structure, this Tignanello has exceptional aging potential that promises a very long life in the cellar, while offering enough finesse to be enjoyed in its youth.
Other characteristics
Classified as IGT Toscana, this wine is only produced and bottled in favorable vintages. Historically, it was one of the very first wines from its region to be aged in small oak barrels and to completely exclude white grapes from its composition.
The excellence of Tuscany: Antinori - Tenuta Tignanello
The estate
Located in the heart of Chianti Classico in Tuscany, the Tenuta Tignanello estate was acquired by the Antinori family in 1850. This historic property is famous for having given birth in 1971 to this iconic cru, a pioneering label among the "Super Tuscans" that profoundly revolutionized Italian winemaking. Today, the estate is brilliantly led by the three Antinori sisters: Albiera (president), Allegra and Alessia, together with general manager Renzo Cotarella. The estate embodies viticultural excellence through wines of international renown.
The vineyard
The wine comes exclusively from the eponymous 77-hectare plot. This exceptional vineyard, classified under the IGT Toscana appellation, rises to an altitude of between 350 and 400 meters. The vines benefit from a beautiful southwest exposure and thrive on soils rich in limestone and schist, derived from marine marls. The significant temperature variations between warm days and cool nights promote optimal phenolic and aromatic development in the grapes.
The vintage
The year 2023 began with a cold, dry winter, followed by budburst within seasonal norms. From late April to mid-June, the weather was cool and rainy. The summer season was then warm and dry, without extreme heat spikes, before giving way to moderate rainfall in August. Classic autumn conditions in September and October allowed for ideal ripening. The Sangiovese harvest began around September 20 and concluded during the first half of October.
Winemaking and aging
The fermentation of this Tignanello 2023 took place in conical vats, with careful skin maceration to extract color and preserve aromas. Rackings were only carried out after rigorous daily tastings. Malolactic fermentation then took place in small oak barrels. The aging lasted 13 months, primarily in new French oak barrels, complemented by a small proportion of Hungarian oak. The various lots were first aged separately before being blended to complete their aging in wood. The wine finally rested for 12 months in bottle before its release.
Grape varieties
This wine is predominantly composed of Sangiovese (80%), complemented by Cabernet Sauvignon (15%) and Cabernet Franc (5%).
