Description
The estate
A Saint-Emilion Premier Grand Cru Classé, Château Valandraud is one of the most beautiful properties in the appellation. Offering a remarkable value for money, the Virginie de Valandraud cuvée is made from a selection of younger vines from the estate.
The vineyard
The Château Valandraud vineyard comprises 12 hectares of vines in production, planted in clay-limestone and siliceous-gravelly soils. The vines are 30 years old on average and produce fine Saint-Emilion wines.
The wine
Virginie de Valandraud is the Second Wine of the estate.
The vintage
Spared by the spring frost, the vineyard suffered from a significant pressure of cryptogamic diseases due to heavy rainfall until July. The rigour of the teams throughout the vegetative cycle enabled them to preserve the vineyard’s healthy condition up until the grape harvest.
Vinification and ageing
Manual harvesting. The wine is aged for 18 to 22 months in 100% new barrels.
The blend
Merlot (80%)
Cabernet Franc (15%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (5%).
The tasting
This 2021 vintage offers an alluringly fruity structure (red fruits) along with a fine and lively expression.
