Description
A Juicy Chateauneuf du Pape with Plenty of Fruit and Fine Tannins
Founded in 1994 by Dominique Laurent and Michel Tardieu, Tardieu Laurent specializes in hand-crafted wines from the oldest vines and best parcels of the Rhone, sourcing their fruit from organic and biodynamic growers with whom they have established a long-term relationship based on trust. All of their wines are limited in quantity with only a dozen barrels or less made of each, allowing for a more focused attention and care to the winemaking process. The Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2017 from Tardieu-Laurent is a blend of 70% Grenache, 25% Syrah and 5% Cinsault from vines that are 65 years old or older, sourced from Les Bedines, la Crau, Les Gardioles and Coste Froide. The fermentation took place with 50% whole clusters and the wine was aged for 1 year in old barrels and foudres and another 10 months in foudres. As in the case of all wines made by Tardieu-Laurent, the Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2017 is not fined or filtered before bottling. The Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2017 by Tardieu-Laurent presents a deep red color in the glass, a testament to its engaging and intense nature. On the nose, this wine reveals bright red and black fruit (blackberries, cassis, raspberry and plum), beautifully blended with spicy characteristics, green bamble and oolong tea. On the palate, it shows off a medium to full body with great density on the mid-palate and very fine tannins. On the finish, the wine is lively and tense, adding an exciting ending to a juicy, pulpy wine full of texture.
