Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2023 Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Color
This French red wine reveals a beautiful intensity along with a deep, particularly attractive color.
Nose
The bouquet opens with a delicate expression of red berries, marked by purity and lightness. Subtle woody notes and spicy touches enrich this elegant aromatic framework.
Palate
The attack is vigorous and precise, revealing lovely tension and remarkable intensity. The fruit's maturity is perfectly balanced by a refreshing tannic grip and superb acidity. The long, energetic finish is distinguished by a vibrant minerality and delicate herbaceous nuances.
Food and Wine Pairing
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with characterful, fibrous-textured meats, such as slow-roasted lamb or oven-baked feathered game. It will also elevate a boldly spiced couscous, delicately pan-seared foie gras, venison dishes in sauce, or intense cheeses such as Époisses, Langres, or Cîteaux.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2023, decanting is recommended while the wine is young. It is advisable to serve it at a temperature of around 17°C. This wine offers superb aging potential, with an optimal tasting window from 2028 to 2035, and it can continue to evolve in the cellar until around 2048, when it will reach its peak.
The Elegance and Minerality of a Great Vosne-Romanée Wine
The Estate
Officially founded in 1981, the Méo-Camuzet estate is a true benchmark in Burgundy. Located in the heart of the prestigious village of Vosne-Romanée, this historic property has evolved to become a symbol of winemaking excellence. Today, Jean-Nicolas Méo runs the estate with passion, upholding expertise that combines respect for tradition with contemporary technical precision. Renowned for wines that combine power and refinement, the estate cultivates a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing each terroir to express its purest identity.
The Vineyard
The "Aux Brûlées" climat enjoys an exceptional location in Vosne-Romanée, at the foot of the Richebourg grand cru. This terroir is characterized by very shallow soils, where the limestone bedrock lies just beneath a thin layer of topsoil, complemented by clay-limestone marls in the lower sections. Facing east to west and exposed to the cool air currents from the neighboring combe, the vines, planted in the 1930s, produce small, highly concentrated berries that offer a remarkable natural balance.
The Vintage
The year 2023 began with a mild winter, followed by a rainy spring and flowering under mild temperatures. Summer proved more capricious, with rainfall in early July during fruit set, before giving way to intense heatwaves lasting until the September harvest. These extreme weather conditions required meticulous vineyard work, including green harvesting, to manage a generous grape yield and ensure optimal quality.
Winemaking and Aging
Following hand-harvesting and meticulous sorting, the berries for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2023 are entirely destemmed. A few days of cold maceration precede fermentation, punctuated by regular pumping-over and then punching-down. Aging takes place over approximately seventeen months in oak barrels from the Tronçais and Bertranges forests, with 30% new oak. The wine is bottled by gravity, without any filtration.
