Description
Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Chablis Village "Sainte Claire" 2024 Jean-Marc Brocard
Tasting
Color
This wine displays a pale yellow hue with silvery green highlights, a shade typical of a chardonnay grown on cool terroir and vinified without any oak influence.
Nose
The nose opens on ripe apricot, moves toward a heart of clementine, and closes on fresh citrus notes, outlining a bright, fruit-forward aromatic profile.
Palate
The palate is dense yet subtle, carried by a wrapped, well-balanced texture built during lees aging, before a tangy, bracing acidity takes over and leads into a clean, mineral-driven finish.
Food and wine pairings
This wine pairs naturally with seafood dishes, such as a seafood stew or a salmon quenelle, and also finds a good match with cheeses like comté or roquefort.
Serving and cellaring
The Chablis Village "Sainte Claire" 2024 is best served at a temperature between 11°C and 12°C (52-54°F). According to the estate, the wine reaches its peak between six months and one year after bottling and can be cellared for three to eight years, meaning it may be enjoyed until approximately 2032.
Other characteristics
This wine reaches an alcohol content of around 12.5% by volume, a moderate level consistent with the freshness and easy drinkability expected from a Chablis village wine.
A Chablis Faithful to the Kimmeridgian Minerality of Préhy
The Estate
Jean-Marc Brocard was founded in 1974 in Préhy, at the heart of the Chablis vineyards in Burgundy. The estate now spans around 240 hectares, with a significant share farmed organically and biodynamically. Today, Julien Brocard, son of founder Jean-Marc, leads the family property and shapes its wines while carrying on his father's philosophy of respect for the vine. Jean-Marc Brocard stands out as one of Burgundy's largest organic producers and a pioneer of biodynamic farming in the Chablis region.
The Vineyard
The grapes used for this wine come from vines around 30 years old, planted on southeast-facing slopes around Préhy, within the Chablis appellation. The soils are Kimmeridgian, composed of marl and limestone rich in ancient marine fossils, a geological feature that gives Chablis wines their distinctive mineral character.
The Vintage
The 2024 vintage was considered a challenging year in Chablis. Despite these conditions, the wine's character evolved favorably following malolactic fermentation, allowing it to become approachable earlier than many other vintages.
Winemaking and aging
For the Chablis Village "Sainte Claire" 2024, fermentation is carried out with native yeasts at a controlled temperature of 18°C to 20°C, followed by a complete malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged on its lees in stainless steel tanks for seven to nine months, a method that preserves freshness and minerality without any oak influence.
Grape Varieties
This wine is produced from 100% chardonnay.
