Description
An Intense Macon with Notes of Honeysuckle and White Peach
Henri Perrusset established his estate in the Macon-Villages and Macon Farges appellations of Burgundy in 1987 and converted to sustainable agriculture in 1998. The vineyards are planted near the town of Farges-les-Macon in the limestone subsoils typical of Macon and in the more marly limestone, loaded with quartz and marine fossils, in Farges. The well-draining soils are ideal for the cultivation of Chardonnay, lending a precious minerality to the finished wines. The Macon Villages 2015 from Henri Perrusset is a blend of Chardonnay from 15-30 year old vines growing on 5.5 hectares, throughout the estate's various holdings around Farges. Following a manual harvest, the grapes are lightly pressed and the must racked by decanting. Fermentation takes place naturally with indigenous yeasts only in temperature-controlled cuves. Malolactic fermentation follows in the spring with bacteria naturally present in the lees. The wines are then matured on their lees for 8-10 months in stainless steel cuves. The Macon Villages 2015 from Henri Perrusset displays a brilliant light golden color in the glass. Despite its modest village appellation, this is a superb Macon with a great texture and focused intensity. On the nose, this white Burgundy reveals lovely notes of honeysuckle and fruits, including lemon zest and white peaches. A natural grainy minerality and fantastic acidity lends an especially zesty quality to the wine. A perfect choice for an aperitif or light first course.
